Ben seems intent on revealing the dark truth of how he and his Republican Cronies really feel about African-Americans and the poor of America.
Stein suggested that only “government-sanctioned religion” could save poor Americans from their own “self-sabotage,” reported Right Wing Watch.
Congress “shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion.” is part of the first amendment to the Constitution. The first concern of the founding fathers was that we not be ruled by the Church or any one group’s religious ideas and beliefs.
Thomas Jefferson to the Danbury Baptists in 1802. In the letter, Jefferson wrote:
Believing that religion is a matter which lies solely between man and his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legislative powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions, I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their Legislature should ‘make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,’ thus building a wall of separation between Church and State (Emphasis added).
So; Ben? Just where does this idea of a State sanctioned Religion come from if not from our American Constitutional Tradition?
Reminds me of “The Islamic State” or Iran. Perhaps Saudi Arabia.
Not America Ben. It seems it is always the way.
Everyone wants freedom for themselves. Apparently a dependent of that wish is the denial of freedom to everyone else.
Therein lies the difference between a Republican and even most Democrats and a true Progressive.
Progressives love their freedom as much as anyone. It’s just that Progressives are willing to allow you to have yours too.
“We want for there to be a high number of rich people who function as a brake on government just as the nobles did on the crown in long ago England,”
Yes Ben; of course; but the even more serious problem becomes; who will act as a brake on the rich people? More to the point; who will act as a brake on the rich and the government which they then control and for all intents and purposes; own.
It seems more logical to spread some of the wealth and most of the power to all the people thereby placing the “Brake” in the hands of those most likely to be run over.
No Plutocracy has ever been the cause of an increase in freedom or the betterment of the conditions for the poor; “BEN”
“Yes, the government designates many tens of millions as poor, but they almost always have indoor plumbing (which my mother did not have in her small town in the Catskills) and they are super nourished as opposed to mal-nourished,” Ben said. “They get food stamps. They get free medical care. They get vouchers for many of the needs of life.”
Now this is where Ben proves himself to be a real genius and a near mystic where people are concerned.
