As is my usual morning practice; I was listening to NPR around 7am and the subject was politics. One of the pundits being interviewed said the Democrat’s challenge is to hold the Black and Latino vote in 2016; when it is not as likely the Democratic candidate will be black again. I agree but…………………
………………….I say; it is to hold all of our votes. Not just the minority vote but the vote of all the Whites who worked beside and voted beside the Blacks and Latinos. Because if you lose the Black and Latino vote; you will surely lose our vote as well.
The landscape is changing. Nothing says that the Democratic Party is as far to the left as a party can be. After the Republicans wake up; discover how far out in the cold they are; and hopefully crawl back into whatever slimy hole from a Fascist Hell they crawled out of; it could be that the Democrats will be the more conservative party.
A new; more liberal party might expect strong support over the next ten or twenty years and might become a valid challenger to the Democrats.
It could also be that many Democrats might be willing to move to such a new party if their party is not able to address the problems of all Americans effectively.
I know some new people now; people whose opinion I value; people of all races; and if they start to write about how their community is not being helped or their issues attended to; I will go and take as amny as possible with me.
My point is, that while I would never move to The Right; I am not married to the Democratic Party.
I support the man; Barack Obama; not “The Party” per se. If the party fails to stand strong against Fascism or fails to follow through on the promises they supported when Obama proposed them; I could move to a party farther left. By the time this would be an issue; many others would go as well.
This isn’t me threatening the Democratic Party. It is me saying that the relationships that we formed; were formed on the understanding that this party’s intention was to serve all people; of all colors and races and heritage. Not just while this President is in office but from here on out.
The fact that we all acted as one; without caring about race and national origin means that my loyalty is to those people who stood with me in the fight.
I say “The Vision” because while it is Barack Obama’s vision; he will be the first to tell you that it was not first his vision but that of Dr King and many others who fought for Civil Rights for Blacks (all Americans really) in the 1960s. That vision may have been on hold after his death but it never died in the hearts and minds of “Real Americans”. Now, that vision has returned to the fore; with a whole new multitude of people who dream that same dream and believe in that same vision. It is “The Vision” that we have ultimately given our loyalty to. And it is to that vision, that I must remain faithful if I am to look myself in the mirror again.
If President Obama should fail to keep faith with us (not bloody likely; what?) or the more likely scenario where the Democratic Party fails to keep faith with us after My President is out of office; I’ll stick with the millions who strived to do their utmost to get this President elected; not to any Political Party.
So the ball is in your court so-to-speak, Democratic Party. Keep the faith and lie to us as little as absolutely necessary to provide for National Security; (Note I said “National Security”; not “National Paranoia”) begin building America and helping those in need; Show us some respect; all of us; not just the wealthy with cash to give; make us proud to be Americans again by acting with honor; decency; compassion; and restraint in our Foreign Policy; give up “The Empire” and concentrate on attracting Allies; nations whose intent is similar; whose conscience is allowed to operate; instead of paid thugs and tyrants whose only goal is not the welfare of their people but the wealth they can accumulate by use of their power and; who have no conscience.
We just escaped such a fate ourselves last week; we cannot approve of inflicting such horror upon any nation. This is why we came together as one people; this is what will hold us together as Brothers and Sisters; Americans.
